University subsitence costs

I was in my first job at 14 and i have never ever been unemployed and at one time had four jobs and i learned free! at the university of life

Bone idle is a bit harsh, but fairish at least .
It's just human nature, especially at that age, to take the path of least resistance, who is going to say no to having everything paid for by the bank of mummy and daddy?

However, when it comes to getting a job there will be plenty of competition from people with the same bits of paper you have, those who have some work experience are much more likely to get a job, they have proved something about themselves, that they can study and pass exams and hold down a job.

What have those with just a degree shown? that they can study and pass exams.

I know who I would take a chance on.

Politics.. about the least useful course you could possibly imagine but hey I enjoy it! Job prospects are pretty much zero so Im starting to wonder why I went for it but Im just holding out for some luck in a few years time when I graduate

The course must have it's uses... Will it give you leadership skills? Will it give you the skills to influence, even when/if you don't have a deep understanding of the project? Will it give you the skills to speak up in front of an audience (give presentations etc)? Will it give you confidence in front of a strange or unknown group of people? These could be considered some of the core management skills that can be applied to any industry. Department leaders of skilled people don't necessarily have the skills of their subordinates as sometimes they aren't needed. You draw the skills from your team and empower them to feed you the information for you to make a decision. You have made your decision to do the course, complete it, but read between the lines as to what skills it is giving you. You can then present these skills to interviewers and any further life skills you have bagged (such as working) while at Uni will work in your favour.

Each family will make their own mind up as to how they handle Uni,money ,the course etc.

Some will struggle ,some will choose not to help too much ,others will want to help their child (young Adult !!!) as much as makes them feel good. All sorts of reasons will be found,some students will do the least others will work their cobs off.

Some courses need more time than others eg. science work ,astronomy,English etc. Some degrees are taught others by research.

Some students have low expectations and settle for lower passes.There no way of knowing which ones will turn out which way .

Each to their own.

If a child of mine was going to uni today,I think I would be happy to give them around £300 per month plus any extras as and when needed,with out taking the michael !!!!!
