Ours act like foremen most sit round the car when we're working on it, but one likes to sit on top of you and inspect any holes/parts for himself. Your drill a hole and Sylvester inspects it before you are allowed to fit the screw! Lying on your back fitting rear shock + cat on stomach

Do you have an engine number to reference?

looking from the front of the car look on the right hand side of the block, there should be a tab with the engine size on, or may be cast in the block

it will be around the lower rad hose just under the bypas hose area

10MA-U-H is a high compression 1098. Is the gearbox ridged?

There are two types of gearbox, one has a smooth cover and was used on the 948, the other has ridges running along the box to re-enforce it and was used on the 1098. I'm sure someone on here has pictures I'm sorry I don't.
If you have a 10MA then you should have a ridged box. The two would have been paired.

This shows a picture of an engine with a ridged gear box attached.

This is a picture of a smooth one from a 948, at a nice price too but a very early auction...

Well I'm not sure. I did notice that you have to lift the gearstick to get it into reverse. On the moggie you push it down don't you?

I've never come across that. There is a little resistance to get to my reverse but I don't have to pull or push the stick, but I've got a smooth bodied 948 box, which could have something to do with the lack of cruising speed I seem to have.
I've been reading the other posts on here and have picked up the idea that the rear diff has a lot to do with final cruising. I'm considering changing mine for a 1098 axle. Not sure if the rear diffs are interchangeable between the Austins and Minors but may be worth investigating so you can get the most out of yours.

I've bought some cream paint. I think it's going to look nice. The baby Austin certainly needs it!

I used to see those around when I was a child. I didn't know what they were called, so I used to call them "Hitler cars". My didn't couldn't work out why, so he asked me, and I told him it was because "that bit" (the front grille) looks like a little moustache.

It still does!
