Good job I didn't book to go.....car in local garage! Wasn't only petrol pump points that need attention.Sidney'61 wrote:All packed and ready to go, I'm really looking forward to it.
I hope everybody has a safe journey and I'll see you all there.
Running on 3 cylinders. Compression check [100 85 110 50] suggests head should come off for inspection.
Thanks Cam so much for you phone advice and moral support. Garage not really familiar with sidevalve engine so I have left the workshop manual with them.
If the head is being removed, does it make sense to replace the head gasket and valves as a matter of course? Actual mileage 92000
Ought to put this elsewhere on site......

Drive safely. I spoke to the campsite last night, and I was told that they had fenced our area off ready.

Squiggle,
If you have the head of any car its good practice to replace the Head Gasket as a matter of course, otherwise it might not seat properly when retorqued. (They are only designed to be squished once...)
If it was an OHV engine, I'd say not to bother with the valves but not an expert on the SV lump

Thanks Lou and Dan [squished is a technical term I assume?]

Just as long as it's not as bad as a recent MOT we went on, RAIN,COLD!!!!!!!!
What made it worse, was that after considerable effort we had persuaded someone else to join us, and now he says he'll never go again

Well it was chucking it down in Manchester this morning (and cold) with a forecast of worse to come for the North West so I hope that some of you invested in the huge MMOC brollies at the National
Seriously, I hope that the weather improves for you as too much kagoule wearing isn't healthy.

I was watching the weather maps, and it seemed to be going round Cumbria. This is the latest forecast.
Saturday
A bright day with sunshine at times although patchy cloud will bring an occasional shower.
Sunday
Another bright day with sunshine at times although a few brief and mainly light showers will also occur.
The rest of the week looks to be similar

In view of ani's request, I thought I would bring this thread up to date with a picture of our campsite taken on Friday evening.
