I would go with "Judge" s suggestion as being a concours man he knows what looks original.
So, deal with any rust on the car, then spray on stonechip coating followed by body colour paint.

"The actual factory finish was body colour.
However a good stone chip paint followed by body colour seems to work well. If using the car everyday, I personally would also cover this with Dinitrol or similar."

No, paintable undercoat might be horrible brushed on underseal that lifts and traps moisture, I was referring to the much better spray on stonechip coating.bigginger wrote:PeterCrowl wrote: I'm inclined to apply paintable chip resistant undercoat, then a coat or two of body color..Isn't that what he just said was his inclination?chickenjohn wrote:So, deal with any rust on the car, then spray on stonechip coating followed by body colour paint.

No it wasn't, I have all the history with the vehicle including the original service book and registration of sale from BMC. The dealer was Wadhams Ltd of Aldershot and was sold to a local gentleman. I have only recently started to strip the underside to prepare for painting and should have some pictures somewhere, which I will attempt to post.

I think mine was the same actually - most of it had been painted over but the more inaccessible bits were still black.
