What's that other knob in the passenger footwell?

Erm… I don’t actually know? Doesn’t appear to do anything. She’s had a few upgrades so still figuring out what’s standard and what’s been tweaked

Definitely an extra of some sort. You'll have to follow it to see where it goes. Doesn't look like it's electrical from that angle; but I can't imagine what a pull cable would be doing???

If it helps I have attached some simple notes on the heating system I made when we first got our Traveller. 15 years later we still leave a copy in the car and refer to it when we need to do anything with the heating. 'A' is the Push Heater knob. Push in for heat. 'B' is the dial which controls the fan speed. Fully anti-clockwise is off. Turn clock-wise and the fan comes on full. The further clock-wise you turn it the slower the fan goes. 'C' is the knob to select fresh air (pull out) or recirculating air (push in).

Do you mean this one? It did have an S on originally.

Yes that’s the one. Can’t make out if it has any writing on it, the letters are quite faded

Mine had curios craters where the letters used to be on 2 of the 4 knobs, I've since filled them with miliput. After a few times you dont need letters to tell you what they do

I expect that to be the air intake flap (11) open/close as shown in my second picture.
From my original 1962 driver's handbook.
My car still has the tap for the heater. I just leave it permanently open.

Yes, a pull-start. Bit of an odd thing to do, changing it......

Thanks for all the tips everyone. I think that she’s been changed over to electric ignition… she has a fob that cuts off the electric so she can only be started when it’s on… it’s a security feature.
The seller did run through everything with me before I took her home but to be perfectly honest my head was in the clouds!

I’ll be doing my weekly check on her tomorrow so I’ll spend a bit more time trying to familiarise myself with all the bits and pieces!

Had my first proper drive in her today with my driving instructor, it was brilliant, I need to work on my clutch control when pulling off (was doing kangaroo impressions) but overall she’s lovely to drive… if a bit lively

Easy test do your light work when its off.
Or are electrics still on but cannot start, thats an immobiliser for theft prevention.

No I believe the electrics go off… the speakers won’t work when the fob is switched off, haven’t tested the lights… I’ll be doing all that tomorrow!

Then if electrics all go off its a remote battery isolator, the other bit will be on your battery connection, usually the negative. Worth checking if its got a manual override or is easy to reconnect direct battery connection. Some of the remote ones are of dubious quality. You would not want it to strand you. IMHO I much prefer a manual switch type.

If you do a search for remote battery isolator switch 12v you will see a range of them come up and you may recognise the one you have fitted.

You know what, this didn’t actually occur to me! Wow, thank you for pointing this out. Yes I would be buggered if the fob battery stopped working, although I do luckily have a spare fob… but still.. yes something to consider!

TIP: Keep the appropriate size spanner for your battery terminals handy in car. Then if the gizmo fails you can put the lead back direct to battery, so you won't be stranded.

I know that most forum members know the following. But for the benefit of the Newbie...
All Minors have "electric ignition"; sparks are made of electricity. So can we assume the OP means "electronic" ignition? ie an aftermarket module that amplifies the standard spark, often with a modified triggering system replacing the standard points.
This is independent of any aftermarket security/safety system that isolates the battery, activated either with a pull cable, an electric cable, or via wireless.
It looks to me like the RH knob originally started the engine, and the "S" on it was ground off when a previous owner converted the starting to a solenoid, driven off the momentary clockwise position of the (replaced) ignition switch. I wonder why they changed it?
Some under-bonnet photos would help us address these - and possibly upcoming - questions.

Started her up earlier and didn’t notice it. She did have a good hour run yesterday so perhaps that did her some good.
I’ll take some photos of under the bonnet tomorrow and share. Like I said, she has had quite a few ‘tweaks’ most of which were done by the mechanic who owned her prior to the guy I purchased her from. The seller did run through it all with me but most of it went over my head so I’m trying to learn what’s what now. I’m not sure at one point the pull start was changed? I can always find out

Yes, it would have originally been a pull start in a car of that age. God only knows why a PO changed it to a key start, leaving the starter knob redundant....

Not entirely sure, I don’t believe it was the seller who I got her from, I will ask him though. She had two owners before him, and one of them… could have been the first or the second, was a mechanic so he did quite a few mods on the car. Apparently his daughter was using the car for uni, so he wanted to make her as safe as possible. He upgraded the engine and gearbox, added servo assisted brakes, added indicators, fog lights, reverse light… I forget what else!

Admittedly some of the mods are not things I would have chosen to do myself… but everything seems to have been done quite well and it will only serve to make her that little bit safer for me… particularly where I live as it’s very busy
