Mine has fitted a length of all thread,over to near the shock, not the battery tray. Is this similar to the grumpy conversion?. It was like this when purchased

That looks to be a Grumpy's engine steady kit fitted. The spare Grumpy's kit I have on the shelf has the fully threaded rod. The non engine end of the Grumpy's kit has a angled bracket that mounts on the cross member by using the two 5/16" BSF surplus damper mount holes. The Grumpy's kit I cannot recommend highly enough.

Yes, you have the fitting for the 'original' on the battery shelf (introduced in late '54), but the Grumpy's fits over the the spare holes near the Damper.
