If you want to fit a new front diff pinion bearing you will have to re-set the diff pinion preload - otherwise the diff may whine loudly as the pinion and crown will in all probability be thrown out of mesh.
Fitting a new pinion bearing is not as easy as fitting a new front wheel bearing.
Personally I would just stick to fitting a new pinion seal and be done with it.
Any more and fitting a good S/H diff is the better option.

I agree with Phil. If that doesn't solve the leak source a S/H diff. The seal replacement will not stop the whine.
It's very difficult to remove the pinion head bearing and you need special tools like this to remove it:[frame]

Did the oil seal and bolted it back up, but b+&*#r me it was on tight.
I can no longer hear the diff over the engine 99% of the time. Great success!
