Do they only have LH dampers? At that cost - I would pick up a used/recon damper and 'uprate' it by changing the oil to SAE 40 -probably all they have done anyway! Didn't realise they wanted old dampers - just put some away in the 'recycling' bin last week....

I would love to get my hands on one of these so called recon dampers to see what has actually been reconditioned. When I look at the price (£16.95 ESM) they couldn't have invested very much in labour and parts. I have my doubts if they even fit lip seals. I fitted the ESM recon ones on my car several years ago and I must say I had no problems with them.

A lot of the dampers that I have seen had pitted shafts due to dry running and rust and they can really only be binned. A pitted shaft can be repaired with SKF speedi-sleeves but that's when it becomes expensive. The housing will probably also require reaming to accommodate.

They were fronts - and leaking.

very nice repair i just dont have the eqip to do that at home , also now i know its broken inside i will need a replacement ,
also would you know if they would still class my broken one as servioceable on a recon replacement?

They won't be able to recon the broken one - so I doubt they will take it.

All sorted now got a replacement second hand good one and unknown to me they were fitted to the wrong sides so prob why one broke,

Thanks for coming back - hope you filled them with SAE40 oil - and make sure the bump stops are present! 'Fitted wrong side' - good grief - I wouldn't have thought that was possible !
