I was once told that there was a higher torque version of the type 9 - used on some of the Ford 2.8 engines. The same guy told me that these could be discerned by the longer input shaft.

Yep, the V6 Type 9 does have a longer input shaft.
200 bhp is the very limit for a Type 9.
The MT 75 is stronger and can take more horsepower which is why Ford used it on the 4x4 Cosworth.
