Anyone know if the thing about not transferring tax applies now to cars which still have in-date paper disks?
My V reg Skoda banger is getting flogged near the end of this month, due to rust and the (bally expensive) insurance running out (it's in test till April, and goes alright, so should come in handy for someone). When it's sold it will have a paper disk valid till the end of November in the windscreen - does that transfer with the car, or does the new owner have to tax immediately?
Goodbye taxdisc - or not!

Theres an interesting letter in Classic Car Weekly. You sell your car.The tax disc can't be transferred to the new owner. The new owner has to tax the car before he can legally drive it.So he phones his insurance company(he's still at the sellers' home hoping to drive it away) to insure it.Then what? The seller has to inform DVLA that he's no longer the registered keeper(and apply for a refund of remaining VED) and give details of the new owner.Until the new V5 details have been recorded by the DVLA in the new owners' name(I realise the new owner doesn't have to receive the actual document)the new owner can't tax it(and insuring it isn't instant as far as DVLA notification is concerned). So if you'd travelled from one end of the country to the other to view the car you'd have to go home and come back at a later date.

This is utterly ridiculous and blatantly a total rip off! Designed purely to extract more money from the tax payer!
Do they really think people are too dumb as to not realize this??
And, as the 'big two' are just two sides of the same coin these days, don't think a change of colour in Downing Street will change anything, red or blue, they're just out for themselves!!
Oh, and if you vote purple you get purple! Despite the lies and smear tactics the others want you to believe!

Not wishing to drag politics into the MMOC forum, but...I wouldn't go THAT far - there are big differences in policies. Anyway, it's not surprising that the two main parties are both centre-right, because that's how our media have directed us to think, as they are almost all owned by very rich right-wing tax-dodging people with questionable connections in big business and global politics. THEY are the ones driving the "me-me-me" agenda. There, I've said it!jagnut66 wrote: And, as the 'big two' are just two sides of the same coin these days, don't think a change of colour in Downing Street will change anything, red or blue, they're just out for themselves!!
