Still with DVLA who are investigating. I sent them a copy of the old MoT with DVLA Taunton Office stamp when registration was changed, and Chassis number matches V5 and MoT
Car runs well though, but 4 Doors require more agility to enter and exit from that 2 Door.

Re: Body Build and Chassis Number
DVLA very helpful, and had it inspected, however they do not hold the registration for the Chassis / Body number and following a review, a consultation with me by telephone, and another review, have this week given me 2 options:
1. Type Approval and “Q” Mark
2. Complete the appropriate forms for a re-built vehicle and request the Morris Minor Club to inspect the vehicle. If DVLA are then content then may issue me with an age related registration. I hope that they will also agree that it was constructed in 1957, and grant MoT exemption. My second MoT with the car, GFO 396, is booked this week.
This has been ongoing since Jan 2015 with DVLA, and their thoroughness with identifying the vehicle accurately is possibly due to the numbers of suspicious IDs on older vehicles, such as LandRovers. I am a LandRover owner and am quite surprised by the numbers of coil sprung 90’s and Defenders being sold as Series vehicles.
So, waiting for DVLA paperwork and advice, and then I hope to be able to ask a club member to certify this car.
What have I learned so far from this?
Well, despite having owned numerous Morris 1000s, and having checked ID Plate and Engine Number with V5C, and although not having 2 or 4 door in V5C, although at least the colour is correct, it is easy to be “caught out” when buying an older car. The Morris had MoT certificate from 1991, and V5, and DVLA registration change all recorded accurately by the local VRO (Taunton office) in 1991; even a Tax Disk. But, back in 1991 or earlier it does appear that a previous owner “hoodwinked” the VRO. And the last owner when he nabbed the registration perhaps did not know that the car was not quite what it purported to be.
Maybe, it will be all over for Christmas…..

Re: Body Build and Chassis Number
As you have the BMIHT HC - both chassis and body tags match - why should DVLA have any doubts regarding its' identity?
Done some stinkers in the past, nowhere near as clear cut as this.
Does the rear axle number match the one quoted on HC?

Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

Re: Body Build and Chassis Number
Car passed it's MoT today. Rear axle number I have not been able to ID so far. It is early axle, 998 cc ratio. All numbers will be reviewed and a diligent search given when DVLA forms are received. I don’t recall BMHIT noting rear axle number and will review. Gearbox is later ribbed type, and engine a Gold Seal rebuild that I measured bore as a 1098 cc block.
Having read that
“chassis or body shell (body and chassis as one unit - monocoque ie direct replacement from the manufacturer) (original or new) = 5 points
suspension = 2 points
axles = 2 points
transmission = 2 points
steering assembly = 2 points
engine = 1 point
“I am hopeful that given 5 points for body, 1 for steering, 1 each for suspension front and rear, and 1 for rear axle and 1 for steering car will be classified as rebuilt and age related Registration given.
Which was not what I was seeking from DVLA, having hoped that original registration and year of build would be identified / confirmed and issued.

Re: Body Build and Chassis Number
The "points" system only applies when the year of the vehicle cannot be established - fail to see why DVLA have plonked this car into this category(?).
873226 went through the "points" system as all it had id wise was a body code - which narrowed build date to 7mths - chassis number traced by its' engine & g/box numbers.
With BOTH bodyshell id's intact - clearly indicating April 1957 - together with a BMIHT HC, a LoA from MMOC, this should be a clear cut case.
I DO issue LoA's, but only on vehicles requiring extensive research, not easy ones like this!
Have you contacted the MMOC's Rob Thomasson - he's your man for this.
Currently taking a few weeks' break, but any problems contact me at pommreg@gmail.com
