Six would save me buying some, I don't mind paying you for them. One would be fine just to save me buying another set. Do you have a car? You could test the 4BA, might save some trouble if it doesn't fit after all.

Is the sender on the Minor Lucas? I found this:

https://www.holden.co.uk/displayproduct ... de=070.226

Which actually lists the thread (at last!) as 8-32 UNC, which should be 4.1656 millimetres diameter, which sounds sensible, but is another frustrating possibility! It only specifies lucas, six holed senders though, not Morris Minors.

OK.Removed one of mine. Its not 4BA although a 4BA does work albeit a little slack. The pic shows the original,a 4BA and a metric (which is too tight).Measurements in that order are:
.160ish
.136ish
.150ish[frame]Image[/frame]

Thanks a lot for taking the time to test.

It could be 3BA, 0.1610 inch diameter and 34.8 (guessing the actual sender screw is about half an inch or 3/8'' long in the picture) threads per inch. But the 8-32 UNC is also pretty close at .1640 and 32 threads per inch.

So close! Perfect diameter, looked right - even screwed in nicely a few mm... but alas, nope.

Upon comparison, there are a few too many threads per inch. 8-32 UNC seems to be the only candidate left - shame they are so much harder to get hold of than 3BA.

Edit: Found some on ebay for £3...

8-32 UNC fits, Hurah!

However, I think I've discovered the reason the first bolt snapped: the thread is somehow messed up. I think the plate welded to the tank that has the threads isn't lining up with the hole properly.

This ESM tank has been nothing but trouble...
