Are you sure that you have the correct colour wire to each light? Green/White = Right F&R Green/Red = Left F&R
Try swapping the indicator light units left to right. If the fault swaps sides then the light is faulty

It's def. NOT the stalk contact on the steering column?

You've tried the bulb contacts & cleaned earthing points?
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

Forget the flasher unit! Join all 3 wires and work with that till you get the lights all working as they should be....then connect the flasher. It's NOT the stalk......or the flasher.....

I joined the 3 wires the other day and all bulbs except the front n/s worked. Did the same today to double check and nothing worked apart from the little green lamp. Dismantled the switch today cleaned contacts and o/s now working again. I'm going to order 2 new front bulb holders tomorrow, to eliminate them. I also swapped the n/s and o/s wired over and the n/s wire worked the o/s bulb, (thanks Mike) so I consider the wire to the n/s to be ok. The battery is very low, wonder if this will have a bearing on indicators. ---When I left school my second choice of employment was to be an electrician, thank goodness I got my first choice!!

I fear you have disturbed so much - that you may have introduced secondary problems now ! I would take an independent 12 volt feed - and put it to each indicator light feed wire in turn - to determine exactly what is and is not working.....

Yes I know it's getting boring now :D How do you think I feel? Disconnected indicator switch wires ( all 5) joined green/brown & dark green flasher unit wires together and put 12v down the green/white wires that feed the o/s indicator bulbs, front and rear lit up. Did the same to the green/red wires that feed the n/s indicator bulbs, front and rear lit up. Connected the switch wires back up (flasher wires still joined) operated switch to o/s position, nothing happened, operated switch to n/s position, joined flasher wires got hot and blown fuse. I'm now thinking switch, although when isolated each position shows continuity and putting voltage on the centre contact transfers said voltage to appropriate left and right contact.

Have you tried a spare stalk?

Could try a spare idercater switch - remote chance it may help.

No-one handy who can lend you a good spare?

I suppose a NEW one will probably get used at some stage - unless
idercaters breed and take over the world, spreading diseases, grotty
ASDA lasagne and dodgy "car boot sale" electricals...

Check the wiring before wasting money on a new switch........ After all, all it does is join wires together - you can do that yourself!

I've disconnected the switch and linked the appropriate wires and get light ( admittedly with flasher wires joined. Put the switch back in and problems. A switch is not cheap but at this stage I'm happy to throw money at it ! The wiring all checks out so I reckon it must be a component.

I agree, points to wiring or earthing problems - assuming bulbs and their housings are okay.

I had some good news today----got working indicators. :D Received the parts this morning, new switch, flasher unit and o/s front bulb holder unit, and front bulbs. As I think Roy has said, so much has been played with to find the fault, it's difficult to say what actually fixed the problem now. Could even have been just a bad earth on the old bulb holder. However, I'm past worrying about that. Want to fit a different type of clutch next, no wires involved there! :D

That's all well and good, but WHAT about the idercaters?

So, we'll never know what the original problem was.

Grrr

He'll probably end up taking the gearbox to pieces!

Funny if the indicators stopped working again with a new clutch! :D

It's just been one of these 'round the houses' problems...happily resolved. But the expense......

Yes the expense! :D Still can't take it with you and worth sod all in the bank, and hey I've got indicators. The only luck I had with that job was that they packed up on the way back from the test centre, as opposed to on the way!-------now about this clutch :D
