Well Mo, my "sensor" as you call it is an ancient electro-mechanical counter in which each SU petrol pump pulse is allowed to go thro' a coil so that a pawl is pulled back and operates a decade counter. It functions much the same as your mile-ometer in your speedo. Mine has a "set zero" press button at the side and looks much like this
http://www.thetimerandcountercompany.co ... rsions.pdf

Using a calibrated can, about 2100 pulses of SU pump pass one (Imperial) gallon - but I need to do a few checks more before I'm confident. So when I'm ready, a steady speed on a flat road on a calm day, a wrist-watch and the counter will give me a miles per gallon figure.

Wot fun! MikeN.

3, soon to be 4 (excluding the speedo and fuel gauge!).

Got an oil pressure, voltmeter (swapping for an ammeter soon) and a vacuum gauge (actually don't approve of them, but this one's a nice Redex one and I had to fill the gap). The void is soon to be filled with a water temp gauge.

Both of mine have just one-
The convertible project has an ammeter

and the 2 door has a temp gauge[frame]Image[/frame]

When i get the convertible on the road I will probably fit it with a temp and oil pressure gauge aswell.

Does anyone know where the optional water gauge was mounted? I used the empty ash tray (prior to revised dash) holes. It looks just like this last poster. Or was simply up to where the installer wanted to put it?

It was up to the installer where they would put it, but like you have said, the ashtray holes are perfect for this sort of thing, which is why I put mine there!

tut tut hands off steering wheel to roll up sleeve in order to read watch face and at night impossible to see , whereas my nicely illuminated clock works a treat , tbh i dont wear a watch , i have a couple but i just forget to put them on . i've always had a clock in my car no idea why really , useful if you are timing your journey and making sure you're in time for last orders !

i know i bought that one full price think it was over 50 quid i had bid on a few on ebay and got beaten to the draw got fed up and wanted to finish the car off ,heres a tip i used some years ago , i have an old rover p5b saloon and the kienzle clock used to charge then run then charge , this is fine unless you have an alarm system fitted , which activates with sudden current surges what i did was get the mechanism out of a vauxhall cavalier clock from a scrappy and fit it into the body of my kienzle clock , i had to change the hands over and it was a bit fiddly , but you might be able to pick up a non working clock for a couple of quid on evilbay and then stick a used modern movement in , i reckon you could have a half decent clock for less than £15
