I was more reffering to the primary teachers back in my day who confused everyone into thinking that centimetres are 'proper' units ;-)

Might be interested to know (although probably not...) that from Year 6 (top primary) children have to be taught how to use feet and inches as well. :)

ooooh - history lessons :lol:

I remember being taught how to use trig tables - the teacher started it with 'You'll never find these useful outside of this lesson and probably never see one again in the rest of your life, but it's written in the sillybus...'

Well if you look in most dictionarys you ARE allowed to call it either name....
In engineering I thought the different definitions were that a rule is a metal measuring impliment with a high degree of accuracy and that a ruler was a wooden or plastic impliment for drawing purposes.
