The seller in this case is being very honest - specifying all the little faults.. many others just skip over them. What matters is the underside.... If you are not prepared/willing to DIY the maintenance, then a Minor is not for you.
Start looking at Pandas........

Guys - I am not saying the seller is being anything but honest and I have looked at the pics lots of times! I just don't think it is the car for me.

I came on here for advice to help me find a traveller, which is the car I want to buy. I appreciate all constructive support which is what I paid to join this club for. I didn't pay to be told I should 'start looking for a panda' which is frankly very patronising.

It's not a wind-up. We see it many times - folks come on here all dreamy eyed looking for a Minor. Great! But the practicality is that old cars in general (not just Minors) need steady maintenance/small repairs/rusty spots touching up etc etc - and if you are not able to do that - it will be a very expensive/tearful way to go motoring. Small modern cars such as the Panda (and many others of course) are very much more reliable and economic on fuel with long service intervals - and they are better able to resist rust and general wear and tear. So - think hard before you buy a Minor. And - you didn't 'pay' to use this forum - it's open to all.

Thanks for the advice BMC - I'm sure you mean well and you're just not that great at conveying it tactfully.

I'm off to file my nails and dream about highly impractical things.

By the way, I'll be able to drive a Moggy in six inch heels, right?

Emma, this type of discussion does come up from time to time. There are plenty of us who driver Minors as every day cars. My two Travellers live outside in all weathers. The Minor, with regular maintenance (which can be done by most people) is inherently reliable. Yes, modern cars are great in some respects, but a Minor has relatively cheap spares, relative cheap insurance, no road tax, and (if looked after) no depreciation. You are right to stick to your guns. You can even drive a Traveller in six inch heals - I have, but then that's another story

Oh I don't do 'tact' - I just tell it like it is. The heels will be fine - the pedal design from the floor is ideal for that.........

it's not the heels that cause problems .It's the width,I have problems with wide fitting shoes :-? as the pedals are pretty close.
ps just to be clear I do not wear 5" heels :D

Phew! Heels are on. Now, how about the rearview mirror and it's suitability for lipstick application (whilst driving ofc)?

Seriously, I have a 'sensible' VW Golf for my daily commute and the like - the Traveller will be a hobby car, well looked after and used for pleasure only. I intend to fully appraise myself of his or her maintenance requirements and stick to them.

Of course I am going to be looking for the best example for my capabilities, both financial and practical. During ownership of the car I am naturally prepared to pay for maintenance/work that I cannot do myself, and have a tame mechanic who can help me if needed. I would just like to try and avoid cars that need welding, lots of rust or wood repairs or replacement from the get go, and I've been told by a couple of club members that my budget should allow that. If it really doesn't, then I will have to reconsider my situation!

I am truly grateful for all your help and advice (even if it is delivered with a blunt and heavy instrument sometimes  ) and hope that soon I'll be the proud owner of my very own Morris!

Emma
