I've always considered red wine preferable to white except during a cold spell and tins of caviar seldom cause any offence to one's passengers when offered with small biscuits kept in a sealed box.

Oh, I almost forgot a pack of playing cards takes up little room and passes the time nicely whilst waiting for the man from the Automobile Association to arrive on his motorcycle and sidecar.

I have both a first aid kid and a fire extinguisher under the passenger seat. In the boot I have a bottle jack, axle stand, brake fluid, engine oil, rags, bulbs, jump leads, wheel nut wrench, cheap tool set (ratchet and most sockets, screwdriver handle and sets of bits for it, pliers etc), multimeter and assorted other bits and pieces. I also have an AA membership and free recovery with my insurance 8) That said I've only needed home recovery once in 8 months or so and the other times stuff has broken I've managed to make it to where I wanted to go anyway. I need to pick up things like fuel pump/distributor/coil sometime too.
