Yes, I can tell you that it is not the same. The pictured engine has no water pump and the dynamo is mounted to the cylinder head. A 1952 MM should have a water pump and the dynamo will be mounted to the water jacket cover. I have 3 of these here and a couple of the older ones too. Of the three, one is in use, one is about to be built up with my Alta head and the third is idle at the moment. Two of these are bored to +.040" and I forget the dimensions of the one I'm using, it might be +020".
Canada is a long way off but if you are not in a hurry and don't mind the freight ... PM me if you want to pursue this.

The block in this picture is waiting for the Alta but there is another like it on the shelf. Also the one currently in "Millicent" will be surplus when the Alta is complete. [frame]Image[/frame]

Very similar engines sometimes come up as 'Tank starter engines' I believe ? Or am I hopelessly confused, again?? :-?

Well maybe I could pop over and put one in my hand luggage.......

OK perhaps not!

Many thanks for your offer.

Re the pictured engine. He tells me it has a blanking plate at the end for a water pump. Waiting for a photo to confirm

As for "a relatively common engine like the side valve"  I have been looking for a spare engine for a while now . It needs an overhaul but I have a problem with some of the studs pulling out of the block so have to be extremely careful on tightening the nuts. Also there is leakage of oil and water though the head nuts after hand tightening on my one. So if you find that elusive supply of engines PM me ASAP will you
Just about to pm you. Have found an engine for you!

I found one 5 miles from home! Rebuilt as standby for Barry Norman's car ... of Grand Master fame. :D

Many thanks for all the support and advice.

Just out of interest Quazar Engineering are going to give me a approx quote to stitch it.

Doubt I'd be able to afford it. Will have to see.

Thanks anyway.

Never replied!

The Morris 8 block on ebay was a WD generator engine with a Morris 8 cylinder head. Note the water jacket with no dynamo bracket.
