The best kits use welded in turrets at the rear - so the dampers are nice long stroke and acting vertically, and at the front have weld-on brackets on the inner wing panels. The poor kits have a weak bolt-on 'subframe' at the rear (which is renowned for cracking) and the dampers are crazily mounted at a strange angle! At the front - miserable brackets are bolted to the original front dampers - poking through the inner wing - and the damper attaches there. The vendors of these kits obviously realise that the bolts can't take all the load - hence they tell you to take the valves out of the lever dampers so they don't 'damp' anymore.

Surely by turreting the rear you're into needing an IVA, same as anything which involves cutting away at the bodyshell ie K series conversions etc?

So where exactly do the turrets go as this potentially would be a better option. Id assumed you had to cut the rear inner wings and have the shock top mounts inside the boot?

Some kits are just inside the inner wing - others put it up the outside of the inner wing.

I can see external ones being ok but if the internal kits involve cutting a section of inner wing away then you're definately into IVA tests, Q plate and no free vehicle tax etc. I had this exact conversation with VOSA about 3 years ago, pre IVA but the same rules still applied, you cant turret the back end by chopping sections of inner wings out. Well you can but you're playing the rules.
