Well - it's all got absolutely nothing to do with the solenoid !!!!!!!!!! UNLESS as was suggested earlier - the wires are on the wrong terminals on the solenoid! So - please confirm - is the brown feed wire connected to the same terminal on the solenoid as the fat wire coming from the battery ?

Right first things first, are the battery terminals tight? How do you know the battery is good? Just because it powers the starter by itself doesn't mean its got enough kick for the whole car... what voltage do you get accross the battery when you turn the ignition on?
