I refitted my travellers window last week using the method I described before of the cut down post with the rubber around it. It will require sealer though I havent done that yet. Probably best to use 3m windscreen sealer and plenty of it.... This new seal was very tight to fit and didnt seem to cover the edge of the body as well as the last one I fitted. The new chrome centre pillar has studs that are far too long and will need to be cut down to suit.

When you say the metal chrome strip do you mean the finisher that goes around the screen or the centre pillar? The finisher goes in after

if you mean the central chrome strip, you can't fit it first because the screen needs fitting from the inside of the car and the strip is too long to go through the cars frame. You need to make up a dummy outer strip cut short so that it will go through the frame, use wood or if fitting a new strip cut the old one down.Once the glass and rubber are in the frame take off the dummy and fit the full sized one(Carefully because once you take the dummy off the whole lot can spring together and you have to start again) If you mean the finnisher then thats fitted after the screen in in place.Honestly the easiest method is that described with straps,I've done it both ways IE the (PROPER WAY :o ) with the glass ,,rubber, dummy outer sealing strip ;inner sealing strip and inner metal strip fitted then offered up to the frame from the inside with about twenty assistants and about 5 hours. The strap method still takes time but you can do it yourself, and takes away the need for a dummy outer strip.Once fitted you can seal under the outer side of the rubber with a mastic gun using whatever gunge you like (I used black silicon ) then clean off with white spirit. Good luck with it
