Suppose a car was stolen, documents were forged and it was put in for scrappage. Then, before it's crushed the forger is collared and the real owner made aware. So, the car is not destroyed but marked on the register. Can the real owner get their car back and drive it?
yes - the original vehicle/registration would not be marked as scrapped ;-) only the forged one.

It's a shame it can't be sold for parts either...would have come in handy to a few people! Looks in very good condition...how can anyone scrap a car like this?? I can't believe they had trouble selling it! I would have jumped at the chance!

scrappage

Post by audi90 »

Does anybody know if a vehicle goes throug the scrappage scheme does its details get deleted from the dvla computer,as i have the chance of a minor thats went through and the original reg was transferred to the new car.the reason im asking this is that could i submit the original chassic number to the dvla for a reg number saying i have restored it over a number of years and dont have the reg number.I know dvla dont do requests for chassic numbers checks, but do they check the chassic number your submitting for an age related plate?

The details don't get 'deleted' from the DVLA database but the records will be updated to show that the car has been scrapped.

Don't understand this bit :-? Are you saying that you have the chassis of the car that's been scrapped as it would be illegal for someone to sell you, or for you to use, the chassis of a vehicle that has been scrapped under the scheme.
could i submit the original chassic number to the dvla for a reg number saying i have restored it over a number of years and dont have the reg number.
Do you mean the chassis number of the scrapped car? You wouldn't be able to use this chassis number and bear in mind that you would be committing an offence if you knowingly submitted false information to the DVLA.
do they check the chassic number your submitting for an age related plate?
Yes, the details will be checked against their computer.

I suggest that you contact the DVLA to seek their advice.

If the car was scrapped under the current scrappage scheme against the purchase of a new car, then no you won't be able to get a V5 for it. Also the scrap yard will get in hot water for selling it.
However this does happen and although it's good to see classics saved, it's not legal.

If you meant the car was officially scrapped - via a scrap yard, (but not with the current new car scrappage scheme) then you should be able to get a logbook from DVLA.
