Can't post a pic at the moment I found the bores suspect when I had the head off, so the engine has gone to the local re-conditioners the have the bores sorted and to fit a new crank I have. I will post a pic in a couple of weeks when I get it back.

Ok - looking forward to it! It may be a very unique block!

You can't quantify the word 'unique' ;)

Hmmm ? It may be the ONLY Morris Traveller with a Leyland Block!! Yes - that would be unique, and I see your point Andrew. Geeees.

Teasing well understood (I do more than my fair share) - it's what makes this board so much better than others!

The engine that came in my '70 2dr was as you describe, with the BL 'swirl' logo on the side plus the blanking plate for the mechanical fuel pump. No idea if it was the original engine or not but it was definitely not low compression. I still have the block in my garage, I'll take a photo tomorrow if you like.

I stand corrected, it doesn't have the BL 'swirl' as I thought but still has the detatchable blanking plate for the mechanical fuel pump. Interestingly it doesn't have the usual size tag. It's definitely not a van engine with high comp pistons in either as the engine number has the 'H' at the beginning of the third part.

Ahhh - fuel pump access is very common - and handy. Some Mini lads use it for an extra vent - or as oil return path when using a turbo.

Finally managed to get a picture of the Leyland logo cast on the side of my 1098 engine which was fitted until today in my Ser II.
I have now fitted a 1275 from an Ital in its place.

Agreed John not seen that before it must be a very late engine as I am not sure when they started using that logo.
Cheers
