Clutch Linkage?

Hi,
As an interested by stander and Ex rally driver, we used to use coke to assist an ailing clutch to finish a rally, the coke or more specifically the sugar in it making the plate sticky thus coaxing the last bit of life from the offending item and hopefully allowing the car to finish the rally.
for a sticking clutch heat followed by starting engine in gear with the brakes on was thaught to be the solution,
