Not 100% who makes it but the 2 part stainless steel exhaust, I bought mine for a traveller, has virtually no silencing properties at all. . . .almost undrivable over 50mph! (new 3 part upgraded one much quieter!)

Trivial it may seem but rubber rear brake booties - there have been a rash of people having ones that dont last - one supplier has proper ones I know of.Any more ?
Bit like a waste of time putting on new steering rack gaitors (whatever they are called) if they are rubbish - lot of work to replace rather than an extra 50p from the right supplier

New chrome starting to pit after a few months on the road on door handles, escutcheons, wiper embellishers, and door mirror bases.
Wiper embellisher wrong angle (causes wipers to clip bonnet).
P Traveller closing panels wrong size.
P Door bottom skin panel poor fit.
P Hinge cover panel poor fit.
Fuel pump diaphragm poor tolerances (causes pump to randomly stick).
One of the head gaskets you can get is poorer quality than the other but you have to buy the poor quality one to get the rest of the head gasket kit.
Screw-on HT leads set with a plug connector at the coil rather than the original screw type fitting.
Throttle cable that needed the bulkhead fitting to be modified to make it fit correctly.
Door strap that tore off its rivets the first time a gust of wind caught the door.
Oil filter that didn't include the correct size of replacement seal.
Track rod end boot that started to split after a couple of thousand miles.
Courtesy light switch that stopped working after less than a year.
Hub caps that are an extremely tight fit on the standard wheels.
I'll probably remember more later...

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

Just a few that spring to mind:
-Starter solinoid: 3 new and all stoped working within a year and very little use aswell.
-Poor quality chrome: both as new parts from suppliers and re-chromed by specialist.
-Light fittings: poor quality internal fit for the bulb, only just grabs the bulb.
-Rubber parts: steering gaiters, track rod end, bump stop, engine mount, kingpin seals, ect very poor and perish within 6 months. (touch wood, my windscreen rubbers have been good)
-brake lamp switch: seeized.
-rotor arms: you show me a good one.
-brake pipe kits always had bad flares, now make my own.
-new wirring loom: the bulb fittings for the speedo not enough grip.
-Head lamp bowls: complete useless adjusters just pull out of the rubber or spin. The proper old style 3 adjuster screw type are very good though.
-don't get me started on panels.
I'm sure there will be more to follow.

I'm with Judge on the plastic 'follower' on point sets being too soft, menaing I have to adjust them every 500ish miles. Seems to be the same wherever you buy them.

All,
I have planned to hold a further MMOC working group to sum up the work that had been done last year. I want people to be involved, but the notes of the last meeting were read by over 2000 people, but only 6 or 7 people attended. This make progress very slow, if you want to help or suggest new ideas then please attend the meetings.
The club wants to help in these matters but without the evidence or support it is very difficult to discuss with the suppliers in a constructive way. I have been in discussion with three companies so far and many want to improve the items they supply, but how much are we willing to pay ?

I believe that most who have expressed an opinion would gladly pay for a better product.
My reason for this thread was to try and supply a solid informed and accurate representation of the issues we all have with the current parts situation.
I too have been very disappointed with the club members physical support at the working group meetings, but this does seem to be the way with the MMOC, only a few vocal members prepared to actually take part.
The trade must be involved too in the meetings, I'm assured by many that they want to supply better products as it is clearly not in their interests to sell sub standard parts
With regard to an 'approved' trader system its vital that the trade are involved on a positive basis, either at meetings or remotely. Unfortunately from those I have spoken too so far there is an element if mistrust for the MMOC as a body who wish to intervene in their business.

Although naturally a higher number attending the meetings would probably help, as Jonathon has said, this does seem to be the way with the MMOC. The AGM is another good example of this, with less than three quarters of one percent of members attending. However this doesn't prevent the Club from continuing.
I feel that what is more important is the structure of the meetings, and again as Jonathon has said, the trade needs to be involved.
To provide the evidence mentioned, I would suggest that everyone retains invoices and faulty parts for further investigation.

In the case of a poorly made repair panel you can't really present it for investigation but you could take photos of each step required to make it fit.Judge wrote:To provide the evidence mentioned, I would suggest that everyone retains invoices and faulty parts for further investigation.

Radiator hoses that are kevlar reinforced they start to crack on the outer surface after a few months, although I see one trader is now also selling the traditional type so maybe that's one issue that's starting to improve.
Cheers
