My partner is getting a Beetle tomorrow or Saturday which needs restoration. The battery has leaked and fallen through the floor! It will need a full respray as well.
I wanted another moggie but can't find one that's reasonably priced. Well never mind!
Nope - I'm waiting for you Send me a pm with your telephone number and I'll call you tomorrow for a chat - if that's ok
Will be nice to do up a Beetle - you can make it look like Herbie!
if you paint a car pannel by pannel the finish will look uneven as one pannel will have dried befour the next pannes has this is a picture of a car painted all in one go

However, it is much easier to paint the panels laying flat (especially if it's your first time), you are less likely to get runs.
Spraying it whole you are probably more likely to miss bits aswell.
Please correct me if I'm wrong...

but if you lay the panels flate wont he dust settle on them. and the pressure from the spray gun will blow dust up onto the panel. even if you wet the floor to stop dust. this is if your spraying it at home of course
As a novice sprayer with a cheap gun I had more trouble spraying horizontal panels than vertical ones for several reasons: You can't hold the gun fully perpendicular to the panel, so the top of the spray 'fan' is much further away from the panel than the bottom; it's easy to accidentally touch the wet paint with the air hose or the paint pot (if it's the kind with the pot under the gun); and in my case several times a big drip of paint leaked out of the paint pot seal and splodged onto the panel.
The trav roof was the hardest panel to do because it's a huge horizontal sheet and I could only reach it from a stepladder, which I had to move around to about five different places around the car in order to spray a coat on. As a result it probably has the worst orange-peel on the car.

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.
