Quick Q. Did you get Blast Treat to strip down the wheels too? How much did they charge?

blast treat did the wheels that are presently on the pickup, standard width rims,£12 each, they are charging me £15 each for the five wide rims I'm having bead blasted presently.

Well, you have more luck than I have then. I orded and paid some parts at this guy, but they never arrived. Several emails, but no reply and no parts. Met the guy at his stand at Standford Hall, he promised me then to send me my missing parts, but they still havent arrived ..........

Blast treat don't normally let me down, but they failed to leave a message on my answer machine to let me know they had processed my three wide wheels, a week later they called me again and I went and picked them up today, after some "polite discussion" they have agreed to flash over the many dots of rust that have appeared in the week since they were blasted. They will also do my ebay wides for the usual £15 each and they have promised to call me and leave a message the moment they are ready, lets see if they keep their word, I'll keep you posted.
New distributed points arrived as well today, nice and new. here's the old and new together with the part stripped distributer.[frame][/frame]

with the base plate removed you can see right into the body of the distributer, its like a coalmine down there.[frame][/frame]

bit of a scrub in my electrolysis bowl, not the bowl I do the dishes in, I hasten to add. Kay said it looks like something from the "young one's" flat.[frame][/frame]

it came up nice and clean though, bit of car shampoo and a toothbrush and you're away.[frame][/frame]

The distributer cleaned and reassembled with new parts.[frame][/frame]

looks like the terminals are shorting to earth the plastic washer goes through them holding
the wires onto the spring to the points

Well spotted!
Both leads should be isolated from the post with the plastic "top hat" pieces.

Did you make sure the centrifugal weights are free to move? It looks very rusty. That center screw comes out for regular oiling. With it apart you should take the screw out and remove the weight base and clean that as well. With all of the shampooing, you exposed it to more water.

thanks for all that good info, I will resort the connection properly, its easy to dry after a good wash, being a small component half hour near the boiler and it was dry as a bone.

Blasttreat called me at 0930 this morning to let me know my 5 wheels were ready for collection, I got over there as fast as possible to collect them.[frame][/frame]

its a miserable wet day today, so after a light flash over the wheels with a blowlamp (to dispell any moisture that could get trapped under the first coat of paint)I gave them all a spray of acid etch primer from a can.[frame][/frame]

in their medium grey bare steel finish it was easy to see the LP917 stamp on each wheel.[frame][/frame]

blast it, just wasted three hours in a traffic jam in Brighton trying to get a Aldi deal on a compressor, none left, sold out right away. Oh well, got the pickup out into the sunshine for a quick survey.[frame][/frame]

at least its all one colour now, so thats a start, just needs a deeper shine, so- stripping, flatting and more coats please mr spraygun[frame][/frame]

wheels painted and ready for storage, may not be as hardwearing as powder coating them, but it's all I can afford at this stage of the game[frame][/frame]
