Re: Replacing NS Rear Wheel Cylinder
to update, today i slacked off all bleed nipples a couple of turns and they all opened up ok. is it worth taking them completely out and copper greasing the threads? judging by the rear ns bleed nipple i don't want to go through that trouble again to free it up. that one was like pulling teeth to unthread! also the next chapter is that i am about to jack up the front of the car, anyone have a picture handy or a link to a picture with a reference to where to jack? also a jacking point for greasing up the trunnions?
while under there, i saw grease/oil above all of the flexible hoses and grease like substance on a big brass nut union, is this normal? is this to lessen friction if these hoses hit/graze the underchassis? i can't see any leaking from the braking system and no fluid on the ground.
what is the capacity for new fluid of the braking system?
finally, doing up the bleed nipples, they only need to be hand tightened then snugged a quarter of an inch i presume?
interestingly, i had to use an 8mm spanner to undo the nuts on the front bleed screws, the 7/16 was too loose!
thank you for all your help and advice.

Yes -some replacement parts (nipples and fittings) are 8mm. The grease is likely just left-overs, helps prevent rusted up threads. Jack under the join between chassis legs and front cross memeber - where the tie-rod mounting brackets are fixed. Never ever be tempted to use the Minor jack - in the sockets on the sills! About 1/2 litre of brake fluid is enough! And no - don't overtighten bleed nipples - just snug them up - not even a 1/4 turn!

Re: Replacing NS Rear Wheel Cylinder
well there you go, i think it's finally sorted. did a little emergency stop and the brakes are good enough to nearly send you through the windscreen. quite impressive for drums. so powerful that i managed to lose a front bump stop in the process. i have learned a lot and i bet it's not the last time i will have to go into the brakes and do something but next time i should be a bit more prepared.
getting there!
