Sorry to miss you JimK.

Was nice to meet you Rob_Jennings!

Was aussiemike refering to the lemming or my lowlight pickup?!

Just popping out to retro fit a central locking kit to my FTO then i'll bag a few pictures of the intake manifold and exhaust for you Jim.

Suspensionwise on a saloon i'd reccomend what ive got done on my other 2 door saloon...the glittery one on the first or second page of this thread!

Its a JLH kit and is SPAX adjustable dampers. Two Turrents (very heavy duty - a bit overkill IMO Jonothan! ) But very strong none the less! Also has a cross brace to join the two turrets together. Very neat kit. I run an RS2000 rear axle on my glittery saloon and its perfect for whats planned! Just need to find an 1.5 or 2 inch Ford escort rear lowering kit and longer U bolts to loose some of the space between my wheels and the arches for the low look! 8)

Right, off for some pictures!

Dont know if it would be worth while doing but I think I might consider putting the manifold and exhaust into my local garage to have some fabricated. Might be some interest for this type of system if people are considering this mod. I'd definitley reccomend doing it! 8)

Nothing like overtaking modern cars on the motorway, roof rack suitcases mud rust and all! Seen some classic faces!

Back on in a bit!

The manifold ive got is standard Metro Turbo and the exhaust is a rather well made groovy looking double U bend (Best way to describe it! )

Theres a flange that bolts to the Metor Manifold then a U bend in the pipe then another which then goes into a downpipe which runs down to where the standard exhaust goes then it goes into a single fat silencer and out to a side slinger exhaust.

Exhaust sounds ace, not too loud but load enought to turn heads!
8) Really nice exhaust note when driving along quite quiet when idling and a real roar when theres some Spirited driving to be had!

Thats the kind of exhaust I was thinking for mine. 1 big silencer side exit, if I ever get round to sorting out getting the 1275 I've agreed to buy.

It might be a weird question, but what kind of oil do you use in your Turbo engine Heathy12?

As you have a turbo which requires thin oil, and an A-series which requires "only just liquid" oil, to prevent it leaking it back onto mother earth.

Well been about 4 moinths of ownership of the turbo trav now and it's been great fun! :D Just home in Scotland at the moment, wheeled my 2 door saloon out of the garage for a clean and a look. Can't wait to get the transplant underway! Its now looking like i'll be too buisy this summer to do it, but you never know! Ive gotta get the 2 door saloon down south again, dont fancy taking the turbo trav up north.

It seems a shame to do what ive got planned but I recon with my old running gear in the turbo trav it can be sold as a restoration project, all it needs is wood and a re-paint really!

Went for another long drive the other day and the engine started to make its sewing machine noise again under load, ive blown another manifold gasket! Do'h! SO ive parked her up for a bit whilst I find search for the time to replace it and also find a slightly beefier item to use.

It also did the stop start thing again where it drives fine 60, 70 , 80 ,90 8) then just seems to die on me slowing down so you keep on changing down but then it just dies when you put your right foot down. That was before the manifold gasket went, so im still here scratching my head as to whats up!

Another funny thing that happened was that I was driving along and then lost boost (Which I had turned up quite high!) and it actually drove at Morris Minor speed. :-? Great I thought! Pull over and pop the bonnet to see whats up and the pipe that attaches the blow of valve had been forced out of its housing, it is only push fitted into the housing via an aluminium tube! :o So, pushed it back in and away we go. So another job'll be to push that in and alu weld or glue it in.

All good fun! :D

She's under cover now which should preserve the woodwork a bit more now, thanks (For the cover, You know who you are! :D )

Little update!

Been working away in Bristol for the past 2 months so havent had much weekend time wot having a demanding girlfriend and all so have had to priorities things somewhat!

Turbo'd travs still going strong. Only problem ive had is blowing gaskets on the manifold. Hopefully over this problem as Ive now got the proper hardened gaskets meant for the turbo. The running problem i had was down to the gaskets failing in weak points and allowing the spooled up turbo air to vent from the manifold meaning the loss in power and sounding like a sowing machine!

Just fitted my first geasket (bought 3 just in case! ) so am just about to go out for a drive!

Loving having a turbo! Sooooo much fun! Waiting for a vented dump valve to come thru at the moment so I can have the grin factor of a big whoosh the turbo venting gives! :D Should sound amusing!

Got the studs and minilights fitted too gotta bit more rubber on the ground now too! Thinking the car needs a panhard rod now though, got a feeling the back axle drifts slightly when powering round corners!
More updates to follow!

I see you're selling the car on eBay - nice price you're looking for :-)

A couple of things: what did the terrible noise from the engine turn out to be? And you should know that the woodwork should be an MoT item as it is structural, it's just that many garages don't know this.

If you offered the car at something closer to the price you paid I'd be interested.

OMG!!!!   :o :o

Just noticed this thread again!

NEVER HAD ANY INTENTION OF SELLING!

Hence the price! Free eBay listing day so thought why not! Its certainly got the MMOC forum a bit of thru traffic and veiwing though by the looks of it though.

Have had about 1.2million questions about the car with crazy swaps for sticks thru to Triumph Vitesses and Jeeps! There's some nut cases out there!

Ive still to investigate the knocking, was going to be my get out clause if it did sell  but really I would have sorted that out before it went. Im pretty sure its the head gasket on the way out. Have a Group A head Gasket set which came with the car (Apparently!) somewhere in the boxes of bits I got with the car so just gotta find some spare time to whip the head off, clean everything up and whack back on.

Spoke the the old owner the other day, Mr Adams. If your reading...Hi there! Like I said it had gathered quite a bit of interest!

As for the wood work. Its not MOT'able unless its completely gone and hanging obviously! I was of that thinking but my mate at the garage who has 4 minors in at the moment (With one of mine due for some welding-Ive no time!) tells me that its not the case which i thought weird but hey! The woodworks fine really, its in a kinda suspended animation after I re-did it!

Okay dokey!

Been a buisy boy this morning despite evils and sycological abuse from my girlfriend who just wants to spend weekends sitting about for 48hours...Why don't all girls have hobbies?! (I'll stop before this turns into a rant!)

Whipped the head off today, only took an hour in all.

My suspisions were correct! The head Gasket has started to go! Blowning between cylinders 2 and 3 when the turbo spooled up causing 2 and 3 to loose pressure andpre ignited each other.

Also found out the the block is SLEEVED! Just about to have a route round for the other Group A head Gasket that apparently came with the car, could be fun! I'll pop up some pictures later on.

Still on the look out for a vented blow off valve for my pssssst effect! Then we shoud be back on the road and clocking up the miles again! :D 8)

Right,

Started shopping about for bits now so getting things moving!

Gotta new cylinder head as the one fitted was actually warped!

The person who'd ported the chambers had also got a little carried away with the dremel and hasnt left much material between each cylinder which isnt too good! :-? there was hardly any material left between where the cylinder sleeves meet with the head!

Just gotta source a set of new Pistons and Rings now (ANYONE GOT ANY KICKING ABOUT!?!?!?!) will replace them all as a matter of course.

Will get the new head ported and flowed again myself and skimmed down again to get the compression figure of the old one.

No real progress to document, going a bit slow, sad seeing it parked up on the road really  and not being able to drive her.

Anyone help with pistons and rings?!?!?!!

Cheers.Ad :D
