need help tonight please

Post by mrclion »

I`M getting confused with all this gearbox oil stuff, my gearbox is empty and has to be filled tomorrow but what with, the morris minor book I have looks like saying engine oil.

I have a 1962 morris minor 948cc 2 door.

if engine oil is to be used can I use Duckams?

thanks
George

Just use the same oil as you put in the engine.

Duckams make lots of different oils, so without knowledge of WHICH Duckams oil I can't advise specifically, but if you would put it in your engine, then you can put it in your gearbox.

Any 20W/50 multigrade from a decent oil company will do fine. From memory you need about 1.2 or 1.3 litres. Good luck with undoing the filler nut - I found it was an odd size (about 17mm).

As Cam & Chris have said engine oil is fine, but not a modern synthetic and also as has been said before dont use an EP 80/90

I think the gearbox filler plug (1098 box) is 3/4 inch AF.
