Anyone know anything about my fuel pump?

Slightyl concerned at the lack of ticking sound (which I think of as part of the minor "Experience") but it looks plastic and long lasting ..

It doesn't look like a late Minor fuel pump and you probably can't hear the ticking because its not mounted on the bulkhead. As long as it works, and is not leaking fuel, I guess you could leave it. Of course the problem, as with all inherited "mystery modifications" is when it does go wrong, what the hell is it??

The fuel line looks a little close to the exhaust. If it was my car, I'd get a new fuel line and re-fit the original Minor fuel pump (maybe off your spares car?), but its up to you!

That looks like a nasty aftermarket electric pump. It probably doesn't make a ticking noise. It's certainly not original!

The original pump should be on the right hand side (looking into the engine bay) of the battery box and should have a copper pipe supplying the fuel from below and a braided pipe going from the pump to the carb.

The rusty (or is it copper ?) fuel pipe should be a worry - and the discharge pipe after the filter must be very close to the water pump pulley and/or fan ! If they touch - fuel could be sprayed all over the engine and could easily ignite. Don't fancy this set-up at all !

Fuel pipe is copper .. and the discharge pipe appears OK ... and not too close ...

I inherited a whole heap of fuel pumps (four as it happens) I'll rebuild one and refit the stock setup but leave this one in . "Just in case"

Well if they work (after cleaning the points) you can get about £15 to £20 on ebay for them...
Always worth to keep 1 working spare - that way you'll never need it

If you're going to the standard set up it is worth to check the points on a second hand pump and replace if they look worn.
I've had a few problems with the SU pumps but only relating to OLD points, and I have always made it home, so I trust them a lot mre than other pumps!

Hello Justin,

just in case you are not aware, most S.U. pumps are located near the fuel tank and the Minor's is near the carburettor and neither will work well if fitted in the wrong location, they may look similar but their pumping is different. The point I'm trying to make is that not any old S.U. pump will do the job. They may physically look the same but they are not necessarily effective if wrongly positioned.
