Hi all,
I have managed to mangle up a stub axle on a virtually new front leg. Is it possible to remove the stub axle from a front leg suspension upright to substitute another and if so how do I do it?

Doh!!!
You will need a bench press to push out the stub axle. Fit the stub axle nut just proud of the threads and gently press out. If you have trouble in finding a decent replacement let me know, as I have quite a stock of these from the Ital conversion we do.
Good luck. If you are unable to perform this task then drop it into us and well have a go for you.

They usually need around 10-15T to get them shifted but this drops to down to 5T or so once it's moving.
I'd try to avoid the use of heat & there's no chance of it coming loose. It's held one way by the large circlip & the other way by the bearings & hub.

The circlip is pretty hefty & doesn't even get touched when swapping over stub axles.bmcecosse wrote:It's the 'circlip' that would worry me.
It sits in a recess so there's no way it's going to fall out. The circlip's actually impossible to remove without pressing the stub axle out slightly (I tried when removing my first one).

You will all be pleased to know that they do just press out. I used a small hydraulic press and it needed about 2000lbs force.
I was surprised that it is just a press fit, and that there is only a circlip on the back side to stop it moving out in one direction, but the axle is a pretty tight fit so I'm not worried that it will move during use.

that's fairly common when cornering on ice at speed... if there is a kerb nearby. It usually involves fitting the spare wheel afterwards thoughIf it takes 2000lbs to shift it, then I think it should take well over 2 lateral G to have it come off when driving... Not sure that's a common Minor cornering ability!
