Isn't it cute!

Hello all!

Well, I picked up my engine today, as the guy that was supposed to overhaul it, never gets round to doing so.

So here it sits, proudly in my house. Not even in the living room!

Now some questions,
Isn't the H1 carb sprung, like the H2? This because I can't find a spring anywhere
What can one do about surface rust in the bores?

I had this develop with the DS when the head was off a few years ago. I didn't want to use anything which scoured the bores so I used Halford's green goo (rust remover) and scrubbed it in with an old toothbrush. The surface rust soon disappeared and the goo was easily mopped up with kitchen roll. Not sure if you have a similar rust remover product in Holland though?

Very fine wet/dry paper with thin oil and work it up and down in a sort of 45 degree pattern by hand. You can buy a 'glaze-buster' tool for fitting the electric drill to do the same kind of job.
Nice tidy house!

H1 carbs don't have a piston spring, they just rely on gravity. I had one on an early Riley and fitted a weak (yellow?) spring, never could figure out if it made any difference!

The H1s in my twin set-up for the 948 Sprite have springs in them. I uesd to run Morris 8Es - with that engine and carb - but sorry can't remember if they had springs or not. It was 40 years ago!
