SECOND WARNING! BEING SLIGHTLY LARGER, A 13 MM SPANNER CAN BE INCREDIBLY USEFUL FOR UNDOING A RUSTY/DIRTY 1/2 INCH FASTENER! :D

When they haven't been used fo a while, they get slightly bigger, yes. :D
I'm guessing there aren't quite as many on a saloon as on a commercial that are exposed to road dirt/water etc, so you lot won't have had to deal with the ones that have 'grown' with rust... and I don't pretend for a minute that they'll be any use after the 13mm treatment, just that it's a handy way (sometimes) to undo them.

Also, if the 13mm won't undo it then the 1/4" Whitworth is a smidgin larger still!

The wheelnuts are 3/8" Whitworth (one of my most used sockets!). Also, from memory, most (if not all) of my front suspension ('52-'70) is Whitworth. I have a socket set with AF, Metric and Whitworth and the Whitworth seems to get used the most especially on items that did not change much during production (suspension, body, etc).

Like Ray, I too got 1/4" Whitworth wing bolts which I thought was great! :D

Well.. I have only got one set, which covers all.. except the ones I need. Mostly trial and error to be honest

Spotted http://www.kamasa.co.uk/item.aspx?item=2657&cat=465 in the local motor factors this afternoon. At least I'm 99% sure it was this set... They're asking 30 quid for it, which is about the same as they seem to go for on Ebay, and less than I've found them online.

It looks like a cheap ratchet, and the sockets are the less desireable 12 pointed things (I far far prefer 6 sided), but looking at the mix of AF and Whitworth (plus not too many metrics, unuasual for most modern sets I see) I'm very tempted. Will stretch the budget, but it's the wrong time of year for autojumbles, Ebay means postage costs of nearly item value, and today I struggled to find any small tool traders at the car boot who'll give a receipt for the odd handful of sockets or suchlike (needed for the petty cash books).

I bought a set of whitworth sockets from Baconsdozen. He's a small shop in Lowestoft that has sets and oddments in imperial sizes.

This site http://www.baconsdozen.co.uk/tools/sockets.htm

is currently showing the 42 piece Kamasa set for £20. He also sells Elora Whit/Bsf 1/2 inch sockets for £3.50 each.

Used to have him in my bookmarks ages ago, must've lost the link/ forgotten when I reinstalled one time.

Trouble is his prices are pretty good, till the p&p strikes, which gets him back to the local prices :( For example, that Kamasa set might be 20 quid, but then it's a tenner postage - And locally I can get it for 30 quid (and maybe a couple of quid off if I get the right salesperson). Might be worth going to him if I had a definitive list so I could get the sizes needed, rather than a set where maybe up to 50% will be useless for what it's bought for...

Definately back in the bookmarks though :)

As for Monmouthshire, sounds like the sort market we could do with around here! I have got some pretty good bargains on old Elora, Britool etc tools at the local one, but it's very much down to luck. And none of the small stands that had anything of use yesterday were interested in receipts, something I need to get the money back. Still, I keep an eye out for things, can never have too many sockets, spanners, decent screwdrivers (any good hit through ones around at budget prices atm?) :)
