Only 150bhp  So only about 140 more than mine!

Nikki,

With that I could be persuaded to NOT keep mine original

Come on Jonathan do tell what are you going to do with it - apart from drool over over it.

No, I just keep buying utter crud. Seems no matter what the test drive is like, I'll get the one that under the skin is a total shed. Still, the end of the market I buy from (I've never paid more than 450 quid for a car) it's all down to luck, and that's something I don't have an abundance of.

Still, one day I hope to have a Minor to call my own, on the road. And then it'll still be the roughest slowest dog of a car, but it'll be my rough dog of a car :)

Just to drag the subject back...a little. A friend has just bought a MK1 cortina with what looked like an original battery still fitted. It's the type with the big external connectors joining the cells on top. He tells me that the previous owner bought it new a few months ago from a firm called Lincon ( or Lincoln) batteries. Anybody heard of them? His battery just looked right in such an old car.

I can't rememebr the supplier but I've seen one in a Minor and the owner said it was about the same price as a normal battery!
I was very jealous!

I'm on my 2nd Lincon Battery. The company is only about a 10 minute drive from me. They will build you a bespoke battery if you require it. I bought, and am currently using their model '291'. This is a Hard Rubber cased 60 hour battery with 11 plates per cell and an open bar top. It is very heavy! The dimensions in inches are: Length 9.9, Width 6.5 and Height 8.8. For my first battery they reversed the terminals for me at no extra cost because I was then using Positive Earth. I paid £56.29 for it in October 2004. Perhaps the only drawback might be that they only give a 12 month guarantee, but I had my previous one for 4 years before I replaced it. They can be ordered through my local car spares place so I presume they can be ordered anywhere. The battery fits nicely in the tray and looks vey imposing!

If anyone is really interested if they PM their details to me I'll pop a brochure and price list in the post for them.

Cam,

Picture Here > http://www.woolley.me.uk/Lincon_Battery.jpg

The brochure says they sell it in 'A1' format. This would have the terminals with the Positive on the right the way I have installed the battery. I asked them to build it as 'AO' format which put the Negative on the right.

So if your car is Positive Earth go for 'A1' if Negative Earth go for 'A0' (If you want the Terminals at the back of the Battery when fitted).
