Well,
there's no law about varnishing in the frost
from previous experience (boat varnishing) I'd suggest that you don't varnish when the wood is damp, nor when there's likely to be dew/frost on the varnish before it's hardened.
If you do, it'll either peel off or develop a "bloom" (or both
).
That's my experience and I'd hate for you to waste your time (another excuse to put it off till spring)
