Dipstick length ??

Post by Arfron »

No funny comments !! It's meant to be serious ! :D

I've just been looking at Cam's engine pictures and I note that the yellow dipstick -- ( chooses words carefully ! )-- i s much longer than my dipstick.
In fact I can hardly reach the looped part, through the ignition leads , to dip the oil ?

Is there a set pattern / length for the dipsticks,( from where it enters the block - not from the shoulder to the loop part - , if you can see what I mean ?) as it could have a dire effect ,if incorrect ??

Perhaps someone ( Cam ) has increased the length of the upper parts of the stick ,so that you can reach it , easily ?

I know that my Prefect manual - lists the various lengths, so that you can measure your stick ,and dipstick tube , in case someone ,along the line, has put in the wrong one ??

 Well, thanks for the compliment Arfron!

My dipstick is out of a Maestro and so is the steel tube that sits in the engine block that the dipstick slots into. It's a bit non-original Ital, but I did not have an Ital dipstick spare and I had a Maestro 1.3 lying around in bits... well, you can imagine the rest!

So, mine is 'calibrated' for a 1.3 Maestro (oil level to crank). I would not imagine there is a great deal of difference between the recommended levels for A+ units (or A for that matter).
