Head lining

Hello, Can anyone tell me how the wires securing the head lining are usually held in place
Mine are just loose wires and the new head lining is an unfinished job by the previous owner

Basically just screws into the body shell; in the corners at the side of the glove boxes and at the rear parcel shelf.
The section below the rear window is covered by a board fitted with matching liner material.

The wire around the rear window is also held by 2 screws.

I was hoping there might be some kind of tensioning device

The tensioning is by means of self-tapper screws - these screw into the holes you mention. Sounds like yours are missing.

Thanks for all your advice and pics
A couple more questions before I start to remove the head lining
Do I really need to remove the rear screen?
Do how the cables attach to the support rod ends?

Lift the edges of the rear window rubber and look for concealed hooks holding down the wires which need to be released. It is easier to remove the rear window for this but it may be worth trying without doing this if you want.
I can't quite remember how the wires attach to the headlining hoops but it will be obvious once you remove it.
One tip worth remembering is to attach a piece of string to the wires after releasing them at the front. This will help you pull the wires back down through the windscreen pillars when you are fitting the new headlining.
Also, remember that the plywood board behind the lining over the windscreen is retained by two hidden clips, usually about 1/3 of way across. You need a flat thin bar bent at 90 degrees & a lip of about 1/2 inch and a longer "handle". Carefully insert the short bit over top of windscreen & under lining. Slide sideways until engaged with clip & then lever upwards so that the board pops out.
Note how much material is required between the front hoop and where the plywood board is attached above the windscreen so you can staple the new headlining at the correct distance. Also be sure to note which hoops are for front, middle and end of car. It may help to photograph things as you remove them for reference.
