Logging in

Post by les »

Lately I have to log in each time I visit the forum, usually I just select ‘new posts’ from the drop down box and go from there, is it my iPad or the site that causes this annoying situation ? Thank you.

The site has not changed. It is best practice to always logout when you have finished working, and log in when you next visit. Some browsers/devices will automatically log you out when you close the window. If you log in but then do nothing for a period of three hours, then you will be logged out and have to login again.

"New Posts" reports posts made since you last logged out. If you do not log out, then it will report an ever increasing number, it does not check whether the post has been reported previously.

I'm using Samsung tablet with samsung browser.
I never log out, simply use "close all" close when leaving tablet for a long period. Very rarely have to log back in just go back to browser page and re-open.
Are you sure new posts, is since you last logged in? I'm fairly certain mine seems more date driven as its changed before, after midnight, without logging out.
Maybe anomaly of which browser is being used :-?

Thanks for both replies, I’m not absolutely sure of the sequence Bill, it seems to be very hit and miss lately. I’ll try some different approaches. However I’ve done nothing new to cause this change. Computers, ——you can do the same thing over and over again, then
the next time, a change !

I use a Mac laptop or an iPhone to access the forum and I have to log-in every single time. I assumed this was due to increased security after the bot attacks.

Well.....
I'm currently on my desktop, running Firefox, which tends to keep logged in whenever I switch it on in the morning and reopen the browser.

I just went onto my phone, also running firefox, where I searched for the main site by typing 'mmoc' and from there selected the messageboard, which opened a new tab which was also already logged in....

Go figure.....

I’m getting fed up with this now, I only have to go off the site for a minute, select the minor icon from my homepage again, then get asked to login yet again with user name and password. Every time. I might register again with new name and password. I’d just like to know why it’s been fine for ages, then for no reason this happens. I’ve change nothing.

What if you go from a favourites/bookmarks menu instead?

Maybe iOS had an update that altered Safari or the web backend on the device (you could try installing a different browser such as Firefox for iOS etc. though I believe they still are forced by Apple to use the same backend as Safari is using).

I wonder if completely clearing all cache/history and then logging in would sort it.
