Re Half shafts when I worked FVRDE (fIghting vehicle research establishment) they had trouble with L/Rover 1/2 shafts breaking so we took new ones and scribed a line along their length,after afew miles on and off road they were removed and it was suprising how much they had twisted different materials were tried.
