RAC ranting

I won't go into detail but I have just had a very bad experience with the RAC and our modern (18 years old) Skoda.

Does the RAC have a reputation for being under staffed?

Are all breakdown services roughly the same?

With roadside breakdowns being prioritised and home start being sent to the bottom of the list, is it worth the bother?

This is the first time in 12 years that the Skoda has needed outside help...

With so many cars on the roads these days, they can't keep up with demand, I expect. Not sure if one breakdown service is better than the others TBH, but others on here may be able to provide an anecdote or two about their experiences.

RAC has been ok for me, incidentally on a Home start visit the man noticed a car of mine and asked if I ever wanted to sell it, let him know, months later I did and he bought it !

Never used homestart, they couldn't do anything I couldn't do myself
Once called out green flag for puncture as locking wheel nut key had not been put back in place by tyre fitter, waited so long that in my boredom, I emptied the boot searching and found it wedged below folding seat back, so cancelled and fitted spare.
I suppose it's like insurance you have it for years but never know how good it is until you need it

I only once called the RAC out when I was a member.
Their man told me that the turbo had failed on my car and he could recover it to a local garage he knew.
When I pointed out to him that I knew my car wasn't equipped with a turbo, he quickly departed, rather embarrassed ......
I did complain to the RAC and they gave me 12 months free membership but, once that ended I moved to the AA. I've only had to use them once too but they were very efficient and helpful so have stuck with them......
