Has anyone out there stripped down the door handles from a 4 door? They appear to be held together by a hollow pin through which passes a spring. What are the chances of getting this spring back in place if I dismantle the handle?
Also. Has anyone replaced the door lock with one of those high security locks (like the ones you get on a bicycle D-lock). I remember there being an article in Practical Classics about doing this but I can't remember what the company was called.[/b]

I have replaced this spring and it is a pretty fiddly job, but it can be done. In my case, the spring had snapped and so the door handle would not return back when you had pulled it out. So I had to replace the spring.
Don't forget to knock some of the aluminium over to secure the spring into place once it is on position.

Common fault for those springs to break and many have been fixed so its certianly possible - but like Cam says not easy!
An older chap gave me one of those springs - are they handed? I think one of my handles will need its spring replaced and if they are handed I guess I'll have the wrong one :S
