Hi all,
Another of those 'sort it in the Spring' jobs has unexpectedly jumped up the queue. My driver's door window winder has been a bit stiff for a while - today it became apparent why. The metal channel that the door glass sits in has been rusting away merrily for fifty-odd years, expanding and expanding, and today it gave up the ghost.
This is the metal channel that the glass sits on (in a rubber u section), and it sits on top of the window regulator. I've searched in all the usual places but can't find a part number for this metal channel. Replacement regulators are available but don't appear to come with the metal channel I need. Is the only solution to find a second hand piece of glass which still has the metal channel attached? Seems a bit wasteful as I don't need the glass and there's no guarantee that the metal channel will be in a reasonable state.
Is there a similar/generic part for another vehicle that I could use?
My doors are in a shocking state with rusted out bottoms so one of next year's jobs was going to be to find some better doors to replace them; I might just have to look for second hand doors with windows included.

Seb, I had the same problem and located a second-hand channel to which I fitted the old glass with a rubber mallet, if I remember correctly. It was many years ago but is still intact....

Thanks, that's encouraging!myoldjalopy wrote: ↑Mon Nov 24, 2025 11:45 am Seb, I had the same problem and located a second-hand channel to which I fitted the old glass with a rubber mallet, if I remember correctly. It was many years ago but is still intact....
I've found a couple of intact looking doors on a auction site at a very good price so I think I'll just live with the bust window until I can replace the doors in the spring. The bottoms are rusted through so it's not worth bothering for a short term fix.
