Winter ❄️

Post by ttwlr »

I'm not going to be using my car over winter, it has 50/50 blue antifreez in, should I drain the Rad or leave it ?

If you're are sure of antifreeze then leave it be :tu1:

Leave it.
You might have a reason to move the car, unless it's really in storage, up on stands to stop flat spots on tyres, etc.
I move mine around in the winter, sometimes even taking him out in the snow for photos ...

It it too early for this yet? viewtopic.php?p=704124#p704124

A further point to bear in mind is that antifreeze contains rust inhibitors so, if you do decide to drain it, you may start a build up of rust inside the waterworks and why would you want to risk that?

Same reasoning to top up the fuel tank as well. Petrol won't go off as fast if there's no evaporation/dampness exchange going on. Rust won't get going on exposed inner surface of tank.
If you have to start it up, make sure you run it long enough to get the engine oil hot, coolant hot, everything you can do to stop condensation in the engine. Get a couple of anti-mildew bags and set them inside the car, on thick towels. Cold weather and inactivity breed rust and corrosion.

Just leave as is. I find the battery doesn’t hold its charge so well over winter, so if you’re comfortable taking it round the block every week then do so.
