GEM breakdown cover

Post by CG75 »

Does anyone have experience of GEM breakdown cover? I’ve only just become aware of them. As well as offering breakdown cover to modern cars, they offer an option for classic cars where you can have the car taken to your nominated classic car repairer.

At £91 (without European cover) it doesn't seem particularly good value.
Mine is included with the £216 family worldwide travel and phone insurance linked to my bank account.
So it's hard to apportion the breakdown element (which does include Europe).
I can't comment on the service offered by either :-?

We've been with GEM for a long time. Never needed them for the Minor, obviously, but they've helped my wife out a couple of times with various of her moderns, and very efficient they have been too. She likes the peace of mind it gives.

I use Personal Cover with the RAC. Covers being a driver or passenger in any car (no car age limit). Of course, any breakdown insurance is only as good as their service in the event of a breakdown.
I have Roadside, At Home and National Recovery. I recall that it was less than £100 negotiated down from a silly remewal quote.

Thanks all…I am currently with the RAC but, following reports of some dreadful service (lack of) by them and the AA I am wondering whether a change is wise.
