Steering wheel removal

Post by mogser »

Hi all,
I need to remove the glove box lining to get to wires behind the dash. On removing the horn press I was confronted with this, and not the nut to remove the steering wheel?
Any hints as to what has happened please?

There's no photo showing.

Upload it as an attachment and when uploaded select "place inline". To prevent the image being rotated when posted, crop it even if this is a tiny crop. For some reason unknown to me it will then stay the right way round.

I can see the photo ok. All you have done is remove the 'M' centre badge from the hornpush and not the full hornpush itself. You need to remove the full circular black bakelite(?) and that removes the hornpush and everything. If you look on the centre column behind the hornpush, there is a screw which needs to be removed and the whole assembly comes off.

They were probably all for the later all- plastic “safety” steering wheel.
