SPQR Click Adjuster.

I posted this yesterday on the tail of the Valve Clearance topic where the SPQR tool was raised.
Nobody came back on there so I'm posting it as it's own question.

Does anyone use, what I assume is, the older/earlier version, with what looks like an external click mechanism?


I'm curious as to the operating difference if any.
There's 3 (or 4) different styles available on ebay, in what I assume to be age order....
The Red & White with external click lever.
The Blue & Orange.
The Black & Orange/All Black.

Is it like so many - and only works on perfect rocker arms? I would suggest that most on the forum, who set their valve clearances on worn engines, get it wrong.

On the contrary. It works well with worn and recessed rocker arms. First it is torqued down eliminating any wear in the rockers. It is then backed of by the correct number of clicks (I set my tappets to 8 clicks, inlet and exhaust) to set the correct gap. Twist the locking arm and you ate done. It is so quick and easy you think that you have not done it right. I have had mine for forty years and have used it on mant engines, old and new.
