Hello all. Has anyone used the low-profile Argenta sump in their Fiat modified Morris Minor ?
I have aquired a complete Argenta engine and 5 speed transmission, and was looking for any advice as it will obviously give me greater ground clearance.
Most fiat lancia sumps will fit most blocks, however you have to check the oil pickup depth and orientation,
On my fiat powered Minor I started by mounting the engine and transmission as high as possible, then I cut about 1" off the bottom of the sump and the oil pickup, the oil pickup was tig welded back together (it's aluminium)
The bottom of the sump was replaced with a 3mm (1/8") thick plate, with side and rear wings added to get the oil volume back to where it should be while keeping the same level on the dipstick, infact it ended up holding a little more oil than original which was never an issue,
This worked well for all the years I ran it, and gave me a sump bottom that sat flush with the bottom of the chassis rails which I needed to perform the vans party trick of laying the chassis rails on the ground, as can be seen,
Possibly this is more work than your looking for but might help you, as many a good fiat engine has snapped its oil pickup on a speed ramp etc.
Steve

I got an Argenta sump and pump for my Lancia engine in my Minor back in the day. The Lancia engine was originally canted over in the Beta so sump and pump were at wrong angle.
