Carb Setup for Engine Test Bed
My 1098 engine has been rebuilt and I want to run it before fitting to the car. It has an AUD13 carb that has been professionaly restored. Obviously there are no cables connected. What do I need to do to set up the carb and when I start cranking?

Re: Carb Setup for Engine Test Bed
The initial fuel mixture setting of an HS2 carburettor is done by screwing up the mixture adjusting nut so that the jet is level with the bridge inside the carb. As you look at the carb on the car this is screwing the jet adjusting nut anticlockwise. Then count the flats and screw the nut down clockwise 12 flats or 2 full turns. You could mark one of the flats with Tippex or marker pen. It may well be that the carburettor restorer has already done this or has provided instructions for initial set-up. In order to be able to start the engine you will need to rig something so you can operate the choke. The other things you will need to check are the fast idle screw (controls how much faster the engine runs with the choke out) and the idle screw. You should be able to turn the mixture adjusting nut with your fingers. Don't touch the jet centring nut!! Do not forget to put some oil in the dashpot. You'll obviously have to have the manifold on the engine so put the exhaust clamp on so you can fit the throttle return spring and bracket. Otherwise the throttle butterfly could go wide open with rather disastrous results.
