Hi Everyone,
Back again with Bryan my 1958 Tourer and a new challenge! The manual says remove the trim and push the glass out from one corner, nope!
My questions are, does the glass push out and if so, is there a trick or technique I’m missing? Is the actual solution cutting the seal and replacing it? It’s been on the car for many years I suspect, but still seems in very good condition, pliable and no visible signs of being perished.
It would be great to reuse it but realistically I might do more damage than good if I push too hard!
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Stew, nice project, be well worth the effort you put into this. The windscreen rubber, they are available from ESM, never heard of anyone reusing an old one though, maybe yours is in good condition, normally you run a Stanley blade around the rubber to part it and allow the glass to be gently lifted out while your significant other half holds the glass the other side so it doesn't fall. Check out the ESM website they price most of their products.

Hi David,
Many thanks for that quick reply. I’ll do just as you suggest. It does seem silly to go to the expense of restoration and then try to refit an old seal even though it does look in pretty good condition. It will save me time too so I can move on to the next challenge!

When you come to put the windscreen back in it's worth considering whether you might like a heated screen or at least a new screen. I rather regret that I put the old screen back in on my tourer. The screen is so riddled with fine scratches that it is difficult to drive at night due to the light scatter effect.

Hi Stephen,
Weirdly, this evening I took the windscreen out and noticed it was rather scratched and was thinking whether there is a heated screen.
Let’s hope the budget lasts!

There is a heated screen and it doesn't cost a lot more than the ordinary screen. There would be some wiring to do of course and some kind of timed switch. I dismissed the idea because I didn't think my dynamo would be adequate and I don't want to change to an alternator as that would mean changing polarity as well.

Re: 1958 Tourer Windscreen Removal
Having thought about the windscreen and whether a heated option would be a good idea, it occurred to me that actually, once I’ve finished the project I’m unlikely to take Bryan out in cold weather apart from maybe an occasional sunny and dry, Christmas Day run!
So I probably wouldn’t used a heated screen.
Having put all that work into restoring everything I’ve a feeling I’m going to have to fit against being too precious and protective about when and where I drive!
Rear axle and suspension coming out at the weekend, look out for more questions no doubt!
